Wa-Nee Community Schools is Hiring a Social Studies Teacher Near Nappanee, IN

Terms of Employment: 183 day contract


Evaluation Period:

  • Formative evaluations throughout the school year as per WCS Performance and Assessment Procedures.
  • Annual summative evaluation prior to July 1.


Purpose of the Position:

  • To deliver effective, high-quality instruction that includes rigor and relevance in their content areas in an effort to produce measurable results of student achievement. Wa-Nee Community Schools teachers will perform their duties and do whatever it takes for Wa-Nee students to learn.
  • The successful candidate chosen for this position will be responsible for leading a Trust Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) program and promoting character education within our school community while maintaining an active role on the MTSS leadership team.
  • Special consideration will be given to those candidates with a strong desire to accept extra-curricular opportunities throughout the district.


Minimum Requirements:
The following are the qualifications and minimum requirements necessary for a person to perform this job.

  • Valid Indiana Teaching License
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills
  • Excellent communication skills both oral and written


Essential Functions of the Position:
The following functions have been determined by Wa-Nee Community Schools to be essential to the successful performance of this position.

  • Deliver standards-based instruction in assigned content area(s) and grade level(s) that ensures academic growth for all students
  • Master the necessary content knowledge and skills to successfully teach assigned content area(s) and grade level(s)
  • Develop daily and unit lesson plans and a scope and sequence that are thoughtful, goal- oriented and aligned with curriculum and carefully planned for substitute teachers when unable to attend school
  • Develop positive appropriate relationships with students, including explicit recognition of their growth (i.e., positive calls home, notes, etc.)
  • Consistently implement the school-wide student management policies within the classrooms and through the school campus
  • Regularly assess student mastery of key skills and concepts and use this data to differentiate instruction to meet student needs
  • Maintain accurate, thorough records of student achievement and behavioral performance and complete progress reports and grade card information promptly and as scheduled
  • Communicate regularly with parents and be available for Open Houses, Parent-Teacher Conferences and other events involving parents and or guardians
  • Grow as a professional educator with classes/workshops for professional development
  • Ensure students’ academic progress and serve as a primary point of contact for parents
  • Maintain a neat, clean, and healthy classroom


Secondary Functions of the Position:
The following functions, while important and necessary to the position, have been determined by Wa-Nee Community Schools to be marginal to the successful performance of this position.

  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as needed or as directed by the School Building Principals or Superintendent.


Knowledge of:

  • Policies, procedures and functions of Wa-Nee Community Schools Board of Trustees and the Indiana Department of Education
  • Applicable software and applications


Ability to:

  • Plan, organize, and schedule priorities.
  • Use independent judgment and initiative in making sound decisions and in developing solutions to problems.
  • Discreetly handle confidential and politically sensitive matters.
  • Make independent decisions in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Tactfully and courteously respond to requests and inquiries/complaints from the general public and staff.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community.

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to sit and/or stand for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to stoop, kneel or crouch.
  • Must be able to hear and speak clearly.
  • Must be able to lift items of 20 lbs. regularly/50 lbs. occasionally.
